Rams Looking to Add Safety in Draft?
Posted: March 11, 2013 Filed under: News, Quick Hits Leave a commentAnother wave of releases (or soon to be released players) were announced today, and among them was veteran safety Quintin Mikell, who graded out very favorably this season even at age 33.
With the release of Mikell, St. Louis now has no starting safeties on the roster. Free-agency may be on the horizon, but it is unlikely the Rams will grab two starting-quality safeties out of free-agency–unless they’re willing to shell out for the likes of LaRon Landry or another risky venture.
With two first-round picks in April’s draft (one acquired in the trade for the second-overall pick last year), Texas safety Kenny Vaccaro is square in St. Louis’ sights. It wouldn’t be unexpected for the Rams to look into grabbing another safety in the second-round, with the likes of Florida’s Matt Elam or LSU’s Eric Reid possibly falling from the first-round.
