32. Ravens – S Matt ElamPosted: April 26, 2013
Measurables: 5’10” 208 lbs 32 5/8″ arm length
NFL Combine: 4.43 40-yard 17 bench reps
NFL Comparison: Charles Godfrey
Elam is athletic, instinctual and can play both safety positions. The number one rip on his abilities at the NFL-level are a lack of size at 5’10” and a poor vertical when going for jump balls with both receivers and safeties.
He can cover the slot, he can tackle, and he can drop deep to cover the deep ball — each of which are talents demanded of NFL coaches in today’s football playing style. Elam even draws Troy Polamalu comparisons due to his athleticism, but he’ll need to clean up his tackling technique (specifically on open-field situations) if he’s going to be an impact player at the professional level.
